I like that observation.  I'm probably the same way, but I hadn't 
thought about it that way before.

So unpredictability reduces your trust, but (given that you trust 
by default) you don't require evidence of predictability in order 
to feel trust in the first place.

I like that distinction.  One is about not being confident that 
the person will act in accordance with your interests, and the 
other is about being confident that they will not.  (The position 
of that "not" makes a big difference!)

So whoever gives an impression of "not trusting" first sets the 
tone for trust in the relationship.  I wonder if it works the 
other way:  Does trusting increse the other person's trust?
