Well - I ordered your book 1-2 years ago. As I read thru it, it deeply resonated with me. I felt so frustrated and sick to my stomach afterword because if I'd only known this stuff two years earlier, the previous project I'd been on might have been moderately successful instead of being the most miserable , infuriating, and betraying experience of my adult life. I was utterly clueless about the communication dimension of project leadership until I read your book. Afterward, I keep wishing "if only ..."

I have been able to apply the wisdom of the book to subsequent projects, I only wish it could make the pain of the earlier one go away [sigh]

> Regarding resistance, I recall something you said once. I don't remember where, maybe PSL or Leaders' Forum. But it stuck with me and I have quoted you (with proper credit) on several occasions. You said something like, "People don't fear change so much as they fear loss." I think the fear of loss is a key aspect if not the heart of resistance. If this is true, and I believe it is, one way resistance could be a resource is to alert us to perceived losses. If we explore the perceptions we may find there are some things we definitely don't want to lose (during a change process.)

I have heard this too! I forget where I read it (maybe it was PeopleSmart) but resistance to change was deemed attributable to fear of loss of one or more of the following "3 Cs": competency, control, connection (connection has to do with social connection/status or inter-personal connection/rapport). If you can help someone see less cause to be afraid of losing those, you help them to accept the change. Also, helping them see what won't change (what will remain familiar) can be as important as letting them know what will.
