One thing I wanted to say about this transforming conversation, and I'm just now recalling, is that I've long since archived all this to CD storage, so I can't recall the *actual* questions with any accuracy. I'm fairly certain, however, that I've "reconstructed" the whole experience as a transforming occasion after the fact. To my way of thinking this is natural though, not a "false" way of looking at things. It became, in memory, the starting point of a transformation that took place over a much longer period. > From your "mostly implicit" comment, I'm imagining that we asked a > number of questions about the presuppositions in the things you were > telling us. That's part of it. I might say, now, that I had been asking for my own advice. > The questions we were asking you validated your experience even as > they invited you to explore your experience more fully. That too. I'm now remembering the questions as being the catalysts not just for reflection, but also for further action: I went back to my boss after the initial conflict which was the topic of the first part of the conversation, and conducted these discussions differently from the discussions (or arguments) we'd had before. Then I reported back to the list. Cheers, -[Laurent]- The competition between paradigms is not the sort of battle that can be resolved by proofs. -- T. S. Kuhn ------------------------ Yahoo!
