My oil pressure dropped because the vac pump was locked solid causing the intermediate shaft to slip on the timing belt and not turn the oil pump to create the oil pressure. I changed the belt shortly after as well. Travis Date: Fri, 21 Nov 2014 13:30:58 -0700 Subject: Re: [Vwdiesel] Anybody have a vacuum pump? From: [email protected] To: [email protected] CC: [email protected]; [email protected] The vac pump and oil pump slot/tab IS centered. The oiling hole that supplies the oil to the vac pump is usually drilled off center in the oil pump shaft and might make the tab appear offset, but the tab is centered and will work perfectly fine either way it is inserted. Are you sure the oiling system is working correctly? Was the seal in the bottom of the vac pump gear bad? Oil pump bushing in the block? I had one lock up on me after about 30 miles and looked like that then. I only noticed from the oil pressure droping to zero. I still had the old pump in the back so I swapped back over untill I got another pump in there-still running fine since.
