I've done a coupe but dang if I can remember just how I did it. Don't think I had to pull the vent window though... Maybe the window drops down far enough to get off kilter then comes out endwise? Vent window makes sense... I've barely been able to get the lifter piece back on with the window out! With the rubber and a good (or repaired) lifter piece, it's a really snug fit. Soap and tap it until it's on.

I have always just taken out a rust destroyed bottom window holder and put a
good one on by just pushing it up on the glass with the window in. I think to
get the window out you would remove the wing window frame which is
easy

out

On a 1981 VW Pickup:
How do I get the driver side window glass out so that
I can reattach it to the metal bracket that holds it to the window
regulator?
