Overestimate? Seriously? 
And what's it got to do with democracy? One language would be a great leveller, who cares what  (but there's only one up to the job, even 'technically' with abuse-resistant grammar which preserves meaning despite mangling, and astonishing richness of vocabulary, for historical reasons - English).
And 99.9995% (at least) of the world's population doesn't speak Esperanto...
