doesn't matter. the whole point of the discussion was learning a second language to slow the ageing brain and which has been claimed to slow the onset of dementia. it is the 'mechanics' and cognitive 'exercise' of the language learning of any second or more languages  which is important and not which one. obviously the more it can be used and practiced by communicating with others the better as it opens up other channels but I am sure Esperanto equally serves the purpose, even via the Internet, of putting people in touch with other interested individuals.
