Subject: (nord-londona) Esperanto-sumoo
Karaj esperantistoj,
Do you know about the Esperanto Sumoo? Sumoo means sumo wrestling, but the
idea here is that you don't wrestle with someone else but with yourself.
The Esperanto Sumoo lasts for 15 days, and the aim is to read a book in
Esperanto, a few pages every day for two weeks. If you manage to read a bit
every day, you've won the Sumoo and you get a diploma.
Before it starts you choose your book, and decide how many pages you are
going to read each day. You don't necessarily have to finish the book. Be
realistic about how many pages you are able to read - if you think you can
only manage one page a day, aim for that. It's OK if you read more pages
than you decided in advance, but if you read less pages, you'll be defeated
in the Sumoo.
The next Sumoo runs from 13th until 27th January. If you want to take part,
write to the organizer Hori Jasuo at [email protected] with the
following details:
1. Via sumoo-nomo, vera nomo, sekso, urbo kaj lando.
2. libro kaj kvanto da pag^oj por unu tago, kiun vi legos dum la
sumoo-periodo.
The idea of the "sumoo-nomo" is that you give yourself a pseudonym for use
during the Sumoo. However you don't have to hide your identity, so it can
be based on your real name if you prefer.
You will be given a number and assigned to a "prizorganto", who will ask
you to write every five days to say how you are getting on. You can
indicate the successful days with white beads like this: ooooo oxo. That
means that on the eighth day you have read the assigned number of pages
every day except one.
I strongly recommend the Sumoo which is suitable for all levels, whether
beginner or expert, since you choose the book and the number of pages
yourself. I myself have been taking part in it for several years.
Kore,
Anna
