As we start the final day of our search engine seminar, I want to thank our
panelists Danny Sullivan, Chris Sherman, Tara Calishain & Sabrina
Pacifici. We greatly appreciate your taking the time from your schedules
to answer questions for us.
To conclude our look at search engines, let's consider where search
technology is heading.
One trend that's already with us is changing the grouping and presentation
of search results to make them easier to grasp.
Vivisimo, www.vivisimo.com, does this by clustering results in categories.
The category headings appear in the left column of the screen and use a
file folder structure. (I.e., when you click on a heading name, all the
associated sub-headings appear below it.) Yesterday Orion Wolff of Vivisimo
let the list know he was among us. If you're still here, can you give us
some background in the usefulness and workings of clustering?
Grokker, http://www.groxis.com/service/grok/, which Danny mentioned
yesterday, creates a splashy visual map of information related to your
terms. The name is a nod to "grok," a word Robert Heinlein introduced in
Stranger in a Strange Land, and it means getting a deep and full
understanding of something. It is not a free service, but an application
you purchase. There's a free 30-day trial. Its Web plug-in currently works
with AltaVista, MSN, WiseNut, Fast, Yahoo, and Teoma. If any of you have
used this, please let us know your experiences with it.
Thanks,
Kathy Biehl
