Re: Day 5: Meta-searching & beyond: deskbars

I use the Google Toolbar, which I find extremely useful for getting to Google results quickly. I don't use many of the other options, except of course for the pop-up blocker. I downloaded the Google deskbar, but I have never used it; I always have a web browser open, so I automatically go there whenever I need to search.

I'd like to hear from our experts or our members about other toolbars -- since Google released its toolbar, every other search service raced to develop a similar product. However, they all seem to offer the same features. Do any of the other toolbars have features that distinguish themselves from Google's?

As we consider where search technology is heading, let's also look at
toolbars or deskbars, which make it possible to search the Web without
opening your browser first.

Google, for example, has a deskbar that lets you access Google from any
application by typing Ctrl+Alt+G. It displays search results in an inset
window that closes automatically.

Do any of you use this? Do you find it helpful or not, and why? What other
deskbars should we know about?
