Perhaps I mistated what I think I need.

The CD-Rom contains about 13 files.  Most of these are files that I 
would want to have accessed by a medical professional immediately 
in an emergency, even if I were physically unable to communicate 
with the medical professional (i.e, prescription drugs used, medical 
records, persons to contact in the event of an emergency, etc.).

Other files (my SS card, driver's license, birth certificate, medical 
insurance card) would be password protected.  The table of 
contents, which would not be password protected, would inform the 
reader that the password could be obtained from any of the 
individuals named as persons to contact in the event of an 
emergency and also from my primary care physicians.  (I intend to 
give all of these people a copy of the card and the password, with 
instruction to allow the use of the password when appropriate.)

The question then is:  How do I password protect a file?
