The cost of that service is a maximum of 10 cents, retail (that's what 
a private kindle owner would pay to have a single given file transfered 
to kindle format and downloaded to their device).

Yes, it is legitimate for a monopoly holder to charge what the market 
will bear.  But not necessarily admirable.
