That is inaccurate. In order to load and read ebooks in Notes, you
had to break them up into 4K increments. There was even a small
program automated to do it for larger plain text files. It wasn't
difficult to use (tried it once) and it worked nicely. The screen was
not optimal for reading, though and very few publishers distributed
in that format, though some did.

Hard to say. There are a LOT more iPod owners than there probably
ever will be Kindle owners. If a publisher had to choose a market to
target, I'd place my bets on the iPod. Though granted, there was a
comment made about audio books being "books" and unfortunately, I am
one of those luddites who think of books as things you READ. I think
of audio books as audio--as close to music as they are to books--
perhaps closer.
