I don't have much of an introduction written for Book Futures. The description I have (which comes from what John Mark Ockerbloom wrote for Book People) is as follows:

The Book Futures mailing list is a forum for announcing and discussing electronic books that can be freely read on the Internet. The purpose of the mailing list is to aid and inspire the culture of volunteers and projects that are providing literary works to the Net at large, and to give the readers and fans of online books a forum in which they can discuss what they enjoy, and would like to see, in texts on the Internet.



I do think that Book Futures' discussion is more theoretical and oriented towards the free book archives on the Internet (Gutenberg, Internet Archive, the various library sites, and even Google Books and MSN's competing book archive). Book Future's discussions are also more oriented towards the public good and public institutions, like libraries and governments.

Very likely there will be some overlap, but as those here on TeBC know, the discussion here tends to be quite practical. [I even hope to learn here on TeBC a lot more of the details of how to prepare, distribute and market ebooks -- which seems to be quite a bit more difficult and uncertain than print books. But that isn't what Book Futures is about, so I won't ask those questions there.]

Please come join us on Book Futures. I think that the discussions (which I expect to follow Book People's discussions) will be fascinating, and motivating towards making online books an important segment of the online world.
