Borders is pretty relentless about making each inch of floor space
make maximum profit, and most stores are still more than 50% dead
tree material... it is fascinating to see how the proportions change
over time and vary between shops. Manga seem to be taking over my
local branch while westerns recently followed horror into oblivions
(a few survivors to be found in the literary fiction area). I was
there two buy two books, a DVD and a fuzzy reindeer--so matching the
shelving proportions pretty well! what a model consumer I am....

That was my point though. New tech doesn't generally have a huge
impact on a sociological level for the average person. Rather than
using the basic product in a whole new way they just get to sit on
the bus with a phone to their ear should I'M ON THE BUS ;)

Ebooks, as much as I love them, are not yet a sleeping giant as far
as I can see--let alone one that is likely to wake up soon. They are
used by few people in few ways--but very valuable in those roles and
we are discovering new niches, one by one. Just my 2c of course.

Maybe one day.
