Most writers who are determined enough to become professional  
novelists want to quit their day jobs and write novels full time. And  
why should they HAVE to have a day job?

Yes, Ed, but you said "books" not "novels." ALL BOOKS are not sold on  
spec. All books are not written as novels are

Still IS true for most of the books that sell more than 100 copies.  
And that's an economy of scale thing. It doesn't cost nothing to keep  
a book in print. And it's also not how large publishers business is  
organized. Many/most small/micro publishers already don't offer  
advances.

share of the risk? They want my rights, they can buy them.
