No. It's just some front money based on someone's guess at future sales.
Something to wave while you brag to your unpublished buddies.
Like I said, if it makes you happy...

But I'd rather forget all the dances and foreplay involved in getting
published according to 'tradition' and simply cash my checks from
quarterly sales.
And the word 'quarterly' wasn't an invitation for anyone to jump in
with fluff and bother info about the different periodical payment schemes.
I don't care if it's monthly, quarterly, or annually as long as the
payments are made.
