That depends upon the market segment. It's certainly true in trade
books, but outside of trade, in say, professional books, percents of
net sales are quite common.
And let's not forget that not only are the vast majority of books
sold non-fiction, more than half are also not trade. Trade is the
marquee product, but not the rainmaker. And isn't that a comment on
life?
