Re: Web-based books

This is an interesting point. Jon always makes me think.

Over here at Hidden Knowledge we did a bunch of Rafael Sabatini e-books, 
including some volumes of stories that had never been reprinted.

In the process we  ended up hosting the independently run (run by fans 
of his work) Rafael Sabatini website. In the natural course of events 
the stories wound up on the website where anyone can read them. If you 
go to www.rafaelsabatini.com you'll see a website which is essentially a 
complete literary-historical biography, with lots of appended examples 
of his work. Is it a book in the form of a website?

Magazineart.org is really a coffee-table book, with thousands of 
magazine covers displayed on the web, organized by magazine category, 
title, and date, with annotations and publishing histories.

Burtonholmes.org is a non-fiction book about the travel writer and 
lecturer, with illustrations, essays, history, reprints and the like.

These are just some examples I know about personally. I'm sure there are 
plenty of others.

One of the notable things about these three websites is that they are 
never finished. New material can be added at any time, and things can go 
off in unexpected directions. Video. Podcasts. Forums and discussion 
groups.

The e-book is -not- just the e-text.
