I use HTAs (hypertext application) which is basically a webbrowser. Small download and a simple rename makes it available for mac users. Little encryption helps keep the honest folks honest

I apologize to all if I did not define what I meant by "web-based
books".

These are books formatted as web pages and viewed in web browsers.
Such "web sites" can be either viewed over the Internet, or downloaded
and locally viewed.

Again, the commonality is using web browsers for rendering.
