Re: Kindle Store sales report software glitch?

Yes, that was my experience also, Emily. When my Mobipocket titles were initially picked
up by the Kindle Store, they each had no sales rank at all, which I thought made complete
sense. Eventually as they started to sell, they got numerical sales ranks. What first
concerned me about Amazon's Kindle Store system was that when I got my November
sales report, I fount that one title with a sales rank of 30K had no reported sales at all.
When I contacted Amazon Digital Rights, they confirmed that this title had had absolutely
no sales ever, but weren't able to explain how a Kindle edition with zero sales could still
have a numerical sales rank other than to say "sales ranks are complex."

Interestingly, when I got my November royalty payment, it didn't match my November
sales report--it was short by one copy. So not only did I wonder if there was an
unreported sale of one title, I didn't get payment for a reported sale of a different one
either! Amazon Digital Rights was as helpful as I could have asked for in straightening
this out, but speaking as a former Oracle database administrator, I can say from
experience that in the world of automated accounting systems, a discrepancy like this is a
definite red flag indicating a software glitch.
