While I think you are basically correct I can at least say I have 
bought more ebooks than I have written and that I bought my first 
ebook reader (a Rocket) before I wrote my first ebook.  So I think I 
think I am consuming the format slightly more than I am creating it ;)

I am also mercenary enough that I write ebooks in a genre that I know 
sells well enough that most of my books have sold their 1000th copy 
after a couple of years.  There are pockets where the rewards are 
more finanical than to do with some kind of perverse 
progressiveness.  If e-format had not been a profitable way to sell 
my work I wouldn't have done it that way.
