Perhaps the numbers have doubled or tripled, but twice or three times an
insignificant number still comprises insignificance.  I've only seen one
Kindle -- the chair of a regional library cooperative passed one around at
the beginning of a board meeting.  I was interested to note that she had the
product for a month but had yet to load a book onto it.

It's going to take a long time for ebooks to build up steam.  Every time I
take my ancient GEB1150 out in public people stop to ask me what it is.
When I tell them it is three generations old and is neither a Kindle or a
Sony I get blank looks -- none of them have ever seen an ebook reader or are
aware they exist.  In their view the tool in my hand is a rocket ship, not
the Model A we all know it to be.

How many lists like this one are there? Precious few, I bet. There is a
small Facebook group that is dead as a doornail. How many people on this
list are in the industry as a writer, publisher, librarian, etc., and how
many just like to read ebooks?  I'm willing to bet the former outnumber the
latter.  We can all pat ourselves on the back for being on the cusp of a
movement, but it's a movement few recognize save those who have a stake in
it.
