Interesting.
I loaded 5 books on my Kindle on the day I received it, and have
loaded more than 20 on so far. I've read them all, and I plan to
continue to use it heavily. (Just at the moment I'm reading from
paper, but that will happen much less once I clear the to-read pile I
already had.)
Many people didn't know what it was immediately, but about half of
them had heard of it, and about 2/3 knew what an ebook reader was.
The reaction was especially informed at a Neurology conference my
husband attended -- I became a mini-celeb in the hotel there, with
lots of people gathering around to look at my new gadget.
And around the neighborhood, I get lots of interest, too. (I am in
NYC, though, which they cited as a hotbed for the things. Lots of
folks having to lug around lots of books and papers while they're on
foot -- weight savings matter!)
It must vary with the group, perhaps?
