No, but largely only because there have been too few public details
about Kindle's sales numbers.

The current model can't avoid the same fate as previous iterations of
proprietary ebook hardware.
Like most other electronic tools and toys, it's subject to changes
which will be touted as 'upgrades', downpricing, and -- if perceived
as successful -- eventual serious competition from much cheaper clones.
