Rick,
I know you've said this before, but I don't really get the point.
Why should this be a rule?
We are probably going to come back on this to 'what is an ebook?'
But the plain words novel or other text is far from the only act
in town. One of the greatest advantages for an ebook is where
the audience for something is small, but the cost of producing
whatever it is is high [considerable costly research for example,
and a great deal of sweat putting it into shape. The only way
it is going to be worth creating is if the price is very high
indeed.
I think Chris mentioned perceived value. By that measure what
the writer or publisher thinks is relatively unimportant [which
is shown by the pulping and remaindered figures, and ebook
sales]. Indeed, I could guarantee that, while Harry Potter was
seen as a likely best seller, no one involved anticipated the
craze which has made it a billion dollar property.
And why do we not 'have the same financial obligations' ? What
do you even mean by this?
Sorry to seem so negative.
Joseph Harris
