Of course, the sad thing is that it means that many, many great books  
will never get written. At some point in almost every author's early  
career, someone (mother, spouse, SO) says, "When are you going to get   
a real job?" Not that many mid-list author can quit their day jobs,  
but when the bottom drops out completely, there will be fewer authors  
who ever break out. There will be fewer works of staggering genius  
because their authors, seeing no payoff for putting in the time,  
effort and genius, simply won't bother. There will, however, still be  
terra-bytes of dreck.
