Really? Early fantasy adventure, at best. Not science fiction, and
not really classic -- just early. For comparison, look at
H. G. Wells, in the same time frame, who explored many of the enduring
themes of science fiction. That's "classic" SF. Or to the Oz books,
classic fantasy.
