Travel to another planet? Antigravity? Beam weapons? Space ships? Aliens?
Advanced medical procedures that can resurrect the dead? Maybe not very
"hard" SF, especially by today's standards, but the John Carter books are
fiction predicated on many aspects of *science* nonetheless. (Perhaps you
were thinking of Tarzan?)

and not really classic -- just early.


Now that's something of a matter of opinion, isn't it?
