We, in the US, have a very, very few tax-funded grants for the arts,
but most of that trickle are for the visual arts or music. We have a
few more private grants. Almost all of the grants are well-shy of the
amounts needed to live.
Our writers mostly have day jobs, and those that don't live on the
proceeds of their sales.
This probably helps explain why many of your posts got strange
reactions from this part of the world.
