The key here is selling the books as iPhone "applications", not as
separate packages of content which need to be paired with a reader
program (or reader hardware) which has to be purchased separately.
Then he'd not selling books; he's selling more apps which some strange
iPhone users might want to download and run.  More stuff to sell to
people, more ways to make the iPhone necessary to buy.

Doubt he'd dislike that :-).
