Actually, the group's current settings moderate everyone, including
yours truly. The last couple years I've been pretty loose in what I
allow to be posted, but I filter out almost all messages which
advertise or promote e-book titles -- and I've filtered out a lot of
these! If I don't do this, our group would become useless for serious
discussions of interest to those who work in the digital publishing
industry. That is, this group is intended for "talking shop."

One thing that many online forums have is multiple "rooms." This
allows the forum to cover, almost like an umbrella, a variety of
inter-related communities. The downside to many of these online forum
systems is that, for some reason, they don't encourage the same level
of serious discussion one usually gets with traditional mailing lists.
That is, the social dynamics are quite different.
Anyway, I think the next step is for Mike Cook and I to talk more
about the future of the digital publishing forums. Maybe the step
after that would be to privately reach out to the other major
community-oriented digital publishing-related forums and
organizations.
I'm NOT planning any drastic or major changes in the short-term, but I
continue to keep all options open, and to keep a close watch on how
online social networks, and their underlying technologies, are rapidly
evolving.
Btw, I am not exactly encouraged by the dearth of comments on this
"meta-thread". I'm beginning to wonder how many really seriously
read the messages posted to this community?
Hmmm, I may post a poll to query the community. Although we have 3000+
subscribers, it is obvious many of the subscribers don't closely
follow this group. (I base this on personal experience where I
subscribe to a number of Yahoo Groups with mail delivery turned off,
and I rarely visit them online.)
