There was a small window of opportunity to move encrypted RBs to the
eBookwise servers after GEM abandoned ebooks. I missed it by being
short sighted. Some years ago there was a rumored hack of the
encrypted RB format. I have never been able to find it, even though I
searched extensively. It is disappointing, if not unexpected to know
the time will come when those books will be lost to me, except on
computer via the Rocket eReader. I'm sure the hack can be accomplished
but only if it is worth the while of someone with the requisite skill.

I wish I had an answer for the DRM mess, it is not going away anytime
soon, maybe never.
