Between 1924 and 1960 the British author John Rhode wrote all the books 
listed below under a variety of names. Guess how many of them are now in 
print? Two or three at the most. Yet Rhode was a famous and established 
writer who was and is much loved by his fans, and produced a unique type 
of detective story which has never been surpassed.

I could reissue these electronically tomorrow and find a small but 
devoted band of readers who would be more than happy to meet the modest 
costs of scanning and proofreading -- if not for copyright law. In fact, 
in this area of genre fiction, as in many others, thanks to copyright 
law there are far more unavailable books than available ones. If I were 
to go through the bibliographies on the Golden Age of Detective Fiction 
website I could easily produce a list ten times this long of books that 
people want to read -- if they could only get them.
