Hi Joseph,
Thanks so much for answering my questions.
"Looks like you have a big learning curve heading your way ;-)"
You're not kidding. I'm creative but not computer savvy, can do basics, like turning on the computer :).
"For example if you collect money via PayPal [the account is free] there is a free way of having a payment system. For a single book from your own website you really do not need more than that. So you just made $113, by not paying Go-Daddy! ;-)"
This is me jumping up and down. I just called paypal and they recommended setting up a free account. There is apparently a url button I can set up after they receive the payment, the document will go to the reader. You're the best!!!!
"But you will always be advised to do some planning. Have you read any books on publishing? I'll let others recommend some good beginner's ones."
Not yet, still adding to the book. But I plan to visit my friendly bookstore and start reading so I don't feel I'm in the dark.
"PDFs are one form of ebook, and probably the most popular for all uses. And the size is unlimited. But the size you select should be a commercial decision."
Ok, I don't know what you mean by selecting the size. Also, I think I got a little confused re: Adobe. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I will convert my book into a pdf file which can be any software and doesn't have to be adobe software.
2. Do I need to type in the url or is there a way they can click on the title and that will bring them to the referenced website?
"Ah, you really do have learning curves ;-). The link is a device that is straightforward, but best managed through the program used - again there are free and low cost ones [It really depends how sophisticated you want the ebook]. You put the site address in the box presented for it. Otherwise you need to understand some forms of html."
Let's assume I'm going to use PrimoPDF 5.0.0.19 which my neighbor suggested who is an IT guy, then there is something within that software that will automatically link to the website and the reader won't see the url???
i.e. The Nature of Animal Healing by Dr. Martin Goldstein
http://www.puppyworks.com/speaker/goldstein.html
When the reader clicks on the title, it will bring them to the website. I assume there is a box I would have to type in the url.
"It really depends how sophisticated you want the ebook"
Can you give me an example what you mean?
"By the way, you do know to keep the original file and do all the work on copy files?"
Uhhh???? Can changes be made within the pdf file if needed or do I have to make corrections in my original file that was typed in word?
How am I doing so far LOL.
"Adobe has excellent software, and is needed for the top end of the business. Otherwise, and this means in your case, there is cheap or no cost software available."
What does Adobe have that other software programs don't?
4. Which program do you recommend to create a "book cover"?
"This might depend on your skill level." I think by now you know I don't have a skill level. I am creative though and have a good eye. It's just the technical part I'm weak on.
I would love to start with no cost options if it's going to look good. My basic needs right now is setting up a website and downloading just this book with paypal.
Someone I just contacted wrote a book that was published. She also has an ebook version. She has her own website and is also using Amazon & Kindle in addition to her website.
Thanks again for taking your time to answer my questions. I'm sure it will all come together. I might be bald afterwards!
Sandi
