What would you suggest for ebook security?

I have deliberately bought a few different ebooks in
different formats to check user experience, and by far the
best I found is a simple .pdf with or without setting a
simple password (easily circumvented). There are non
transferable/non printing versions which I guess are most
secure but the difficulty of use will put people off. It
puts me off buying more of them like this. I can't copy
some to a hard drive for safety.

I suppose you can offset the loss of income from pirated
copies against the lack of sales you might make from
producing the ebook in a harder-to-use format. Plus, if
people want it and your name and product is getting a wider
audience, it means more people know about your stuff. Could
this be a good thing if you produce more or eventually go
for conventional publishing-armed with experience from the
ebook side.

Stuart

Why don't you use Open Office to make your pdf (free)

Start with a basic domain and hosting (I can recommend one)

Use the free paypal shopping cart to take ebook orders

Set up a download page with a few basic security tags

And go from there. I can help if you want

Hi All,

I'm still writing my book but did a test run using Primo http://www.primopdf .com/index. aspx

My document is typed in "word". It was easy to convert but it didn't allow me to open the hyperlinks. I went back to all my "useful resources" and typed in the url. That worked and when you click on the url, it takes you to the website really quickly.

I'm a little confused regarding the "steps of creating ebook". Why do you have to go through all those steps if the software such as Primo converts the document?

I called godaddy.com re: websites. I was first told "godaddy night" for $56/yr would work. I could download the pdf and set up a paypal account. Today I called to order it, but am now told I also need to have another website "shopping cart" $113/yr. He said if I had "godaddy night", people could download the book for free. I would need both "night" and "shopping cart" for what I want to do. I would also like people to send in their stories, videos & pictures.

I don't know how they could download the ebook from "godaddy night" if I have a paypal account. After the reader pays for it, they will receive the ebook. Again, I'm confused.

My friend just suggested youpublish.com (free). Do you know anything about them?

Thanks a bunch!

Sandi
