Arggghhh (or however you spell that)!!!
I never said publishers are responsible for copyright violation.  Why do you guys keep doing that?  What I said was that some actions of publishers help pirates feel justified.  It takes two to have an argument and there's certainly an argument going on between the pirates and publishers.  It's an argument that publishers can't win.  My suggestion is that publishers find a way to avoid the argument.
I suppose now I'm going to be accused of saying that publishers are argumentative.  I intentionally avoided saying there was a fight between publishers and readers because I might be accused of advocating violence against publishers. :)
This is getting too weird.  This will be my last reply.

Thre are a lot of different emotions, so I am not sure whether you include all emotions, or whether you are thinking of one or some of them. Just because people disagree, and have reasons for their disagreement, does not necessarily indicate a response that lacks logic. Brenna, in fact, has argued similary to this specific point you make. Do remember that you are putting a point as a reader and device user; she is writing as an author and publisher. And, you may be interested, I disagree with her on this point to some extent. that does not prevent me from understanding why she has it.



Now I think I and others have responded quite fully to your point about publishers being responsible for users breaching copyright. That is a little bit like the rapist claiming 'she asked for it'. And that is the point. However much an attitude or action of another annoys, offends or harms you it does not confer the right to break civil or criminal law.



I am not sure why some people fail to understand that there is the legal angle of taking what does not belong - whether it be criminal theft, or civil breach - and the moral, with the coded 'Thou shalt not steal'. In all cases it is correct to call this in moral terms stealing and theft, even if the law has its own special terms and methods of dealing with it.



I can assure you we understand your point, and quite justifiably disagree with your conclusion. Your own particular case raises other issues, which are fully understandable too. But these are separate from the general argument. In fact I know there is agreement in the US to provide audio books for partially sighted people, either free or at low cost. I don't know the detail, I'm afraid. There are many also available through libraries.



I suspect they are not suitable for your devices, and that is a difficulty. Were you to approach this problem by seeking the help of publishers and companies like  Amazon and Apple to make suitable provision I think yoiu might be quite surprised at the warmth of response you would get.
