Actually, Joseph, yes, I do have what I think is a fairly workable solution
to stem (we can't stop) piracy, and I did what I should with it. I sent it
to the copyright noi and my senators. Since they are the ones that have to
make law, I personally want law and procedures that make sense. Nothing I've
seen is foolproof, but what I have done is draft something that specifically
attacks mass piracy, allows anyone that spots piracy to report it (by first
setting up a database of "protected works" separate from the copyright
office that would be populated by the rights owners...hey, I'd be willing to
enter all of mine in it), and sets very specific responses that must be
taken by the sites in response to reports. Failure to comply with the slated
responses means the sites are also liable for fines and punishment. Since
everything can be cross-populated onto databases and matched by incident,
pirate, site, etc., automatically flagged for attention, and spot checked,
it's a fairly simple system. And, to be honest, it allows pirates to be
fined (money that would go to the government to help support this effort)
without taking more than a pittance of the copyright owner's time...much
less time than we spend now. Since I don't have the money and time to sue
for infringement now...and would be unlikely to get money from the pirates
if I did, at least I could get government help with the problem by ceding
the fines collected to them.

So whatever you may be spouting about me, I am probably the last person to
accuse of being soft on pirates.
