Oh, baloney. Sorry, but EPIC is already coming up on 14 years old, and the
industry wasn't new then. It wasn't anemic then, either. The fight with RWA
over recognition of epublished authors was already 2 years old or more when
EPIC formed.

And all Kindle has done is add some new to ebook readers to an already
thriving market. Do I ignore the effect? No. But they are hardly as great as
you make them out to be. There were already plenty of people purchasing NY
conglomerate ebooks alongside indie ebooks on Fictionwise, ARe, eReader, and
more sites. Kindle got more press than Fictionwise did and brought in their
customer base, but if you've ever heard how Fictionwise launched...
Grinning... The market was already there.

NY is seeing the same types of increases now that indie was seeing and
Fictionwise was reporting back in 2002 or 2003. They are simply at the same
point that indie was then.

Of course, I am talking mainly about publishers that are in the US and
Canada. Other parts of the world lag far behind that. The UK is just now
starting to embrace epublishing in any meaningful way, from what I'm hearing
from authors and publishers there. The publishing industry, I mean. Not the
authors, who had no problems adapting to the market...well, beyond JKR and a
few others that are resistant.
