Yes, I know that is true too. An important factor in the whole story.

I agree very much. POD is more innovative than ebooks in my opinion. It opens print publishing to authors and small publishers. It has created a vibrant sub-industry, full of original works and novel marketing. Even more interesting is the serving of small niches with success and profit. In addition it frees the aware vanity author from the vanity publisher! For this new army of small publisher there has also been advance in small quantity printing with offset.

I don't mean, let me hasten to add the rider, that ebooks are anything but innovative and with exciting possibilities. I have also in mind that many developing directions will be something more than an ebook, being a combined experience of word, film, sound, interaction and whatever else is added. I think, as these directions develop, the reader will become a minor device, as the development moves more the iPad way.

If so, I apologise unreservedly. It was how I interpreted your words. I am glad to know that that was the wrong understanding on my part.

Probably what I was saying in relation to this particular point is that there is not *a* market, or *the* market. I did get an impression, some time back, that the ebook was going to swamp the book market. It seemed to me not progressive for that to happen. I have a multiple of reasons for that view which I won't bore anyone with.

But in the past eighteen months or so, I have been getting repeated opinions in various ways that show the print book is a preferred vehicle for content with every age group to a sufficient percentage to produce enough buyers to maintain a print industry. I also have the impression that the net, together with the great increase in clerical type jobs with computers, has vastly increased the public used to reading as a main activity. 

Because of the downturn it will be a while before it is clear just how the balance of ebook and print book will go. My forcast remains around 50-50. And with a thriving print book presence, bigger than the current.
