I tend to open to a random part and read a few paragraphs. In some  
ways, I think this is a superior tactic to reading a few pages at the  
beginning since book beginnings are often slaved over and middles  
glossed over.

Apropos of publishing, most publishers who offer pieces of the book  
give a first chapter. Any thought about a random sample instead?  
Probably not the best sales tool...
