Re: Amazon is selling a book for pedophiles....

I got involved in this the other day. As I see it, and someone can take
exception to this view, this was not a free speech issue, since the existing
US laws already cover pedophilia as a special circumstance. In short, works
that advocate pedophilia, contain it, even claim to contain it...are all
actionable under US law. People have been prosecuted for even claiming that
pictures contained a minor, when the actual model was over 18. One poor guy
was prosecuted for having Japenese Manga that portrayed explicit sex with a
14 or 15 y/o drawn character.

In addition, free speech only covers the responsible use of the same.
Books/speeches that incite violence have been declared not protected by free
speech. This book is a user's guide to pedophilia and claimed (in the actual
blurb) to help these sex offenders receive liter (yes...he can't spell...I
know...lighter...rolling eyes) sentence if caught, because he would
be performing pedophilia in a less hurtful manner. Yes, my head hurts too.

Beyond that, Amazon saying they do not (and yes, they said this)
discriminate and delete books for offensive content is laughable. They
already refuse to handle porn. So they have a line, and why they would take
the opposite side on this book initially is beyond me.

One of the screamers on the book page claimed that a book about a cougar
with a 16 y/o boy would be acceptable. I disagree. That would be just as
objectionable, legally and taste-wise, as an older man with a 16 y/o girl
would be.

HOWEVER, and this is where I diverge... That's assuming HUMAN characters. I
have non-humans (fairies) that are not adult until 125 years old and some
(Night Warriors and Keen) that are adult at 15 or 16. Sherrilyn Kenyon's
Apollites are adult at 12...look it, act it, physically, mentally,
emotionally adult, etc. Just as it would be henious to have a sexually
active fairy from my world at even 60 years old, it would be perfectly fine
to have a sexually active Apollite at 13 or Keen at 17.
