Re: USB Thumb drives for books

I saw the thread on using thumb drives to distribute books and thought I would add some info.

Surplus Computers is a company that deals with close-out stock. I've found some good deals on thumb drives. For example:

If you're going to autograph them, be sure to get a pen with archival 'artist's grade' permanent ink. 
I got a couple of dozen from them two years ago and set them up as high-end 'gift' promo items. Here's how it worked...
I setup a new folder on my hard drive and put in the books I wanted to showcase. I also included excerpts from other books and hires cover art. 
Then, I built a simple webpage that I called "README.html". That page linked the stories, excerpts and graphics in a simple menu structure. 
Once I had created and test the html file, I copied the entire contents of that folder over to the thumb drives, one at a time. 
Over the next six months, at various conventions, I used the drives as prizes and added them to gift baskets that went to events I couldn't attend.
