To note, this book was pulled less than 24 hours after the complaints
started, and only like 4 or 5 hours after Amazon's original response about
freedom of speech.

I strongly suspect that that original "freedom of speech" response was a
boilerplate that gets sent by reflex action (either by an automated system,
or by someone too low ranked to be allowed to use his own initiative)
whenever someone complains about the content of any book, and it took a few
hours more for the issue to get kicked upstairs to where someone with an
actual brain could consider the matter.

Yes, and other authors have other stories touching on other taboos. P.C.
Hodgell's Kencyr series has incest in the backstory--and what's more,
appears to be setting up incest in the current story as the only love
interest Jame seems to have is her twin brother Torisen. There's a lot of
Internet fiction that violates these and other taboos, too--for instance,
incest is common among genetically-engineered species in the "Chakona Space"
furry stories (because they were engineered to remove the potential for
genetic defects that children of incest often bear).

The difference is that these books are fiction, about fictional
settings--they're not intended to be "how to" guides as that Amazon book
was.
