You never write an "about me" section on a query letter? I've never written a query letter. > You're never asked to talk about yourself when you pitch to an agent? Haven't done that, either. > You don't have a bio on your site? Um... that question seems to indicate you've never visited my site. That would seem to support my belief that there's little point in schmoozing with other authors. Yup. Bio: "I was born at a very early age." Then some stuff happened and I went places and now I'm here and why are you reading this when there are hefty samples of my books one click away? > An awards page on your site? I stuck the 1st Place graphic I won in 2005 on the index page. If that isn't enough to make them check out the samples, they can keep moving. > And so forth? Juggling, for instance. > Don't knock it. Just because it's not important to you doesn't mean it's useless. Um... well... actually... insofar as it applies to me, yes, it does. > Unless you plan to self-publish for the rest of your life or spend > all your time with one publisher, you have to have things to put there. Haven't done it yet, probably won't. > This has nothing to do with socializing and everything to do with NETWORKING. With selling yourself, making yourself/your work look even more appealing to people possibly signing your work...in indie press/epublishing or in NY conglomerate. I'll ask again... has all that stuff gotten you a contract with a big NYC pubber? If not, you can keep going through all the motions and I'll keep watching from the coffee bar. > BTW, some authors are fun people, and I enjoy hanging out with them socially a few times a year. Not surprising. There are fun people in most any crowd. But I don't schmooze with other authors for entertainment because I've found that talking shop doesn't entertain me. Neither does borderline-arguing about the value of awards. I said what I had to say about them. If they aren't specifically geared toward ebook sales, I won't waste time with them.
