Absolutely not. Sorry, but the point is to try and take as much nepotism,
sour grapes, and conflict of interest OUT of the contest as possible. I have
no problem with people that enter (say) science fiction judging in fantasy
or contemporary, but to allow someone entered in science fiction to help
decide science fiction? There would be no degrees of separation, and you'd
end up with small groups forming to sway the judging or voting, so it
wouldn't be the best book awarded or even some semblance of it. It would be
the most persuasive contestant winning or the best loved or...whatever.
Another popularity contest.

I have little trust for any voted award, anyway...whether it's peer voted,
like the Oscars, or reader or reviewer voted. I've won them, and that's
nice, but it's not the same thing as winning a judged award. I've seen them
abused too often. I've seen people discuss how to ballot stuff the P&E. I've
seen winners of "best publisher for the year" that weren't even open for
business in the year in question. I've seen discussions where voters admit
they haven't read any of the books in a category but voted anyway, based on
"I think I've read a book by that author before, and I think I liked it."
How is that, in any way, a measure of quality? When people that haven't even
read a book vote for it and award it?

Simply put, it wouldn't be worth it to me to pay to enter any contest run
that way. If someone else nominates me, sure. Go to town and vote on my
work. But, I won't pay to enter it.
