You mean - charge a really low price and make it up on volume?

Of course the old joke about "lose a penny on each one and make
it up on volume" comes to mind. But that's only a joke if you are
actually losing a penny on each one.

Lowering the price to drive demand is the sensible result for any
production system that has a high initial cost and an extremely
low marginal cost. The trick appears to be (1) remembering that
for the market to behave as expected, you have to price the
*first* unit at the low price, not the millionth unit. And (2),
the writing has to surpass the expected value test.

Finally, the other key factor here might be that she has a
series. She can price low, but still have somewhere up-market
(the rest of the series) for customers to go. That would be an
interesting idea - *always* find a way to write a series, even if
you weren't planning to.

Why do I think these ideas would not be a surprise to Harlequin?
