No idea, because I would never do it. Grin... But considering their method
of doing it, not many. They were playing email and ISP games.

We disagree here. I would pay for a judged contest and sometimes do. BTW,
the money flowing to the author applies to how the money flows in the
publisher/author or agent/author situation...not in contests or marketing.
That's a different sort of reading fee than contests are.

Art is MUCH harder than books. You can set standards for books that you
can't set in fine art. That is really dependent on the eye of the beholder.

That is a good idea, if you can pull it off.

Actually, B&N doesn't even support Nook, from what I've seen. EPICon this
year offered to come in and do an ebook event where we would have prizes for
attendees, sign promo materials, demonstrate the Nook reader for them and
the Nook for PC reader...even work out a way to sell Nook ebooks on site to
attendees of the event. And we had two main signatories with NY-published
titles (one a NTY Bestseller) and others with books that could be ordered in
to increase the draw with the signed paper books, even as the focus would be
on ebooks. And they weren't interested in the least. How often do you get
people coming in, willing to ONLY sell things and demo things that will make
you money...and refuse to even consider it? That's B&N for you.

Tens of thousands, at least. The problem is, so many are entering and
leaving the market every year, by the time a list is made, it's obsolete.
