Re: copyright law change - creators 1, Google 0 - Cameron 'too close to Google'?

I have to agree. Google should have to live to the same laws others do or be
called out legally for it. They don't, and that fact is a blot on the entire
industry.

Then again, I commented in the Copyright Alliance meeting with the US
Copyright Office the other day that the rights of creators should not be
diminished for another pertinent reason they don't really cover. Different
issue but important to the industry, IMO...

There is a movement of sorts (some call themselves Remixers or the Mixing
Culture or something similar) that want to weaken the rights of content
creators, so they can legally plagiarize the works of people that create
worlds and characters by "mixing elements" (sometimes whole scenes or
characters) from other works to "collage together" something new. To me,
this smacks of entitlement. It sounds like a spoiled child that isn't
capable of creating his own works demanding to penalize those that can
create, so he can reach for the brass ring with the works of others. And,
we're seeing it more and more in the last few years. Honestly, any truly
creative person can live within the laws established for derivative works,
parody, and so forth and still create their own worlds and characters.
