Re: effect of bad book review

Interesting... I thought of Kate Douglas as already well known before she
hit NY Conglomerate press, but this would indicate that she wasn't that hot,
if their postulation and math are correct.

Kate tells a story of a parody book she wrote called COWBOY IN MY POCKET.
Mind you, she was already a bestseller for EC. It was a parody of every
cliche you find in category romance, and she submitted it to one of the
lines, where it made it to the very end before being rejected. By then, it
had started garnering a name (think of the spoof book on PA for an example).
Kate brought it out in indie, complete with a book cover where the heroine
has the wrong color hair. Snickering... Some reviewers "got" that it was
parody and loved it. Some hated it; they didn't get the joke. RT Magazine
gave the book 2 stars and a scathing review. Years later (at least three
years later), people were still purchasing the book and citing the bad
review as the reason they purchased it. Of course...most of them seemed to
get the joke.
